Gunnar Smoliansky - Stockholm Central Station. Late Winter 1956
(Text in Swedish)
Gunnar Smoliansky's pictures from Stockholm Central Station recollects a time when the word train station carried stronger connotations than it does today. He had recently returned from Brazil, where he worked as an assistant to the photographer Leon Liebermann. In the late winter of 1956 he turned up at the central station with his Rolliflex camera, but without a tripod. It was enough simply standing still, taking aim with free hands and to avoid strange angles. What Smoliansky saw was a life before charter tours, a life when the population to a large extent lacked travel experience. A life when taking the train from Stockholm to the countryside was an adventure.
In this publication sixteen of Gunnar Smoliansky's photographs from Stockholm Central Station are presented in high quality on glossy photo paper. It was published in a limited edition of 1000 copies to accompany a major exhibition held at Waldemarsudde in 2006.
